Succession Planning and Talent Development: Critical Steps for Preparing and Maintaining a Dynamic Workforce

August 12, 2008
1:30-3:00 PM Eastern

Organizations often fail to ask: “What personnel competencies – skills, talents, abilities, and attitudes – are necessary to achieve our strategic goals?” “How can the organization grow the right people to achieve our goals in the future?”

Succession planning – like talent management -- develops and nurtures the human capital that will achieve the future goals and vision of an organization. It assures a continuing sequence of qualified people to move up, take over, and excel when the current generation of managers and leaders retire or leave. A talent management and succession planning program needs to grow out of and reflect an organization’s strategic plan.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify and compare participant’s current Strategic Planning and Talent management efforts to industry Best Practices.
  • Understand the best techniques to create a smooth succession of personnel and the replacement of key people.
  • Examine how to identify the key criteria, characteristics, traits of High-Potential Candidates in their organizations.
  • Describe how to best Help Your Organization Meet Future Challenges and Goals.
  • Explore the critical importance of Integration of SP/TM with Business Goals and Strategic Planning.
  • Become more aware of how best to Develop Talent, Skills, and Abilities among Employees throughout the Organization.
